FELLOWSHIP (3) - TOO MUCH TO LOSE, NOTHING TO GAIN

INTRODUCTION:

1. Importance/Significance of Fellowship.

2. Consider the (improper) practice of fellowshipping denominations.

DISCUSSION:

I. Lose Your Identity.

A. Consider the importance of the church (Ephesians 1:23, 4:4, 5:23).

B. The message of the gospel is a distinctive message.

II. Lose Your Integrity.

A. God’s people have always been faced with the danger of compromise. Consider the example of Moses (Exodus 8:25, 28, 10:11, 24). Consider the example of Nehemiah, who refused to compromise with Sanballat (Nehemiah 6:3).

B. It is not possible to fellowship denominations without compromising the truth. When compromise takes place, at least three things happen. God’s law is broken, the work suffers, and Satan wins.

III. Lose Your Influence.

A. Paul wrote, "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord," (II Corinthians 6:17). It’s not possible to be in fellowship with those in a false religion and be separate from them at the same time.

B. It is not possible for us to influence a person to come out of a denomination if we make ourselves partners with the denomination.

IV. Lose Your Inheritance.

A. The greatest inheritance anyone could ever receive is waiting for us in heaven (I Peter 1:3-5).

B. It is possible to lose our inheritance (II John 9-11).

CONCLUSION:

1. Why don’t we fellowship the denominations?

2. There is too much to lose and nothing to gain.
