Matthew 11:28-30

INTRODUCTION:

1. The greatest invitation of all – Matthew 11:28-30.

2. Great because it demonstrates God’s willingness to save man. Indeed, the theme of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation is Christ.

DISCUSSION:

1. The Five Books Of Law (Pentateuch).

a) Genesis - the promised seed – 3:15.

b) Exodus - our Passover – 12:43-48.

c) Leviticus - the scapegoat who bore our sins – 16:20-22.

d) Numbers – the brazen serpent – 21:6-9.

e) Deuteronomy – the prophet of whom Moses spoke – 18:15-18.

2. The Books Of History.

a) Joshua - cities of refuge are our refuge in Christ - 20:1-9.

b) Judges - the righteous judge who delivers us from sin.

c) Ruth - the kinsmen redeemer - 2:20.

d) I & II Samuel - the anointed - I Samuel 2:10, II Samuel 2:14.

e) I & II Kings, I & II Chronicles - king of kings, now reigning over his eternal kingdom.

f) Ezra - the builder of the temple.

g) Nehemiah - the builder of the wall.

h) Esther - the savior of the Jews.

3. Wisdom Literature/Poetry.

a) Job - the redeemer for whom Job longed - 19:25.

b) Psalms - the crucified one - 2:1-12, the resurrected one - 16:10.

c) Proverbs - the wisdom of God.

d) Ecclesiastes - the preacher.

e) Song of Solomon - the heavenly bridegroom.

4. Major Prophets.

a) Isaiah – Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace - 9:6.

b) Jeremiah - the branch - 23:5-8.

c) Lamentations - mourning over the city of Jerusalem - 1:12.

d) Ezekiel - the good shepherd - 34:11-16.

e) Daniel - the stone cut without hands - 2:44-45.

5. Minor Prophets.

a) Hosea - the one who restores - 1:1-3:5.

b) Joel - the name upon which those who will be saved must call – 2:32.

c) Amos - the one who calls us to repentance.

d) Obadiah - the one who rules over the kingdom - 1:21, Acts 15:15-18.

e) Jonah - a sign of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus - Matthew 12:38-41.

f) Micah - the one who rules over his heavenly kingdom - 4:1-2.

g) Nahum - the one who reveals the nature of God.

h) Habakkuk.

i) Zephaniah.

j) Haggai - the builder of the kingdom that cannot be shaken - 2:6-9.

k) Zechariah - the priest and king - 6:12-13.

l) Malachi - the messenger of the covenant - 3:1.

6. The Four Accounts Of The Gospel.

a) Matthew - the king of the Jews - 27:37.

b) Mark - the suffering servant - 10:42-45.

c) Luke - the Son of Man - 19:10.

d) John - the only begotten Son of God - 1:14.

7. Acts - the only name by which we may be saved - 4:12.

8. The Epistles.

a) Romans - the power unto salvation - 1:16.

b) I Corinthians - the resurrected savior - 15:1-58.

c) II Corinthians - the one who will judge us at the last day - 5:10.

d) Galatians – deliverer - 1:12-17, 3:13, 6:14.

e) Ephesians - the head of the church - 5:22-23.

f) Philippians - the reason to rejoice - 4:4.

g) Colossians - the preeminent one - 1:14-20.

h) I & II Thessalonians - the coming one - I Thessalonians 4:16-18.

i) I & II Timothy - the one mediator - 2:15.

j) Titus - our blessed hope – 2:13.

k) Philemon - the one who sets us free.

l) Hebrews - our great high priest - 4:14-16.

m) James - the Lord - 1:1, 2:1.

n) I & II Peter - the chief cornerstone - I Peter 2:6.

o) I, II and III John - that which was from the beginning - I John 1:1.

p) Jude - the one who is able to keep us from falling - 1:24.

9. Revelation - the alpha and omega - 1:8.

CONCLUSION:

1. Christ – the theme of the Bible.
