What Makes the Glad Tidings Glad?

Romans 10:15
"And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

INTRODUCTION:

1. Romans 10:15.

2. What makes the glad tidings glad?

DISCUSSION:

I. The gospel is glad tidings because Jesus is the Son of God. Emphasizes Jesus’ authority.

A. God the Father declared Jesus to be His son (Matthew 3:13-17, John 1:29-34).

B. God the Father declared that we are to give heed to the words of Christ (Matthew 17:1-5).

C. Jesus taught that, because all authority has been given to him, we are to observe all things whatsoever he has commanded (Matthew 28:18-20).

D. The writer of the book of Hebrews affirmed the authority of Christ (Hebrews 1:1-4).

II. The gospel is glad tidings because Jesus is the Son of man. Emphasizes Jesus’ compassion.

A. Christ came to earth because of God’s compassion for man (John 3:16, Romans 5:8-9).

B. Christ lived a life of compassion (Matthew 9:35-36, Mark 1:41, Mark 5:19).

C. Christ demonstrated compassion toward sinful man even at the time of his death (Luke 23:34).

D. Christ now serves as our compassionate High Priest (Hebrews 4:15-16).

III. The gospel is glad tidings because Jesus lived among men. He provided man with a pattern of living that is in accordance with God’s will.

A. Jesus was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15).

B. Paul wrote that we are to imitate him to the extent that he imitated Christ (I Corinthians 11:1).

C. Christ was a lamb "without blemish and without spot" (I Peter 1:19).

D. Christ set the example for us in giving (Ephesians 5:25), in humility (Philippians 2:1-11), forgiving others (Ephesians 4:32), enduring suffering (I Peter 2:20-25), concern for the lost (John 4:1-29), overcoming temptation (Matthew 4:1-11), self-denial (Matthew 8:18-20), and prayer (Matthew 26:36-46).

IV. The gospel is glad tidings because Jesus died.

A. Christ’s death was a manifestation of God’s love for man (John 3:16).

B. Christ’s death was a manifestation of Christ’s love for man.

C. Christ’s death made forgiveness of sins possible (Hebrews 10:3-12).

D. Christ’s death serves to reminds us of the necessity of obedience (Hebrews 5:9).

V. The gospel is glad tidings because Jesus was resurrected from the grave.

A. Christ’s resurrection was a manifestation of God’s power (I Corinthians 6:14).

B. As Christ was raised, we too will be raised by the power of God (I Corinthians 6:14, II Corinthians 4:14).

C. All, both the good and the evil, will be resurrected (John 5:28-29).

D. At that time, judgment will be rendered upon all (Jude 15).

CONCLUSION:

1. What makes the glad tidings glad?

a) Jesus is the Son of God.

b) Jesus is the Son of man.

c) Jesus lived among men.

d) Jesus died.

e) Jesus was resurrected from the grave.
