THE JUDGMENT OF GOD
Romans 2:1-16
INTRODUCTION:
1.
DISCUSSION:
I. Men
are self-condemned when they practice what they condemn in others (v1).
A. Matthew
7:1-5: "Judge not, that ye be not judged………… Thou hypocrite,
first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly
to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye."
B. John
7:24: "Judge righteous judgment."
II. God
judges according to the truth (v2).
A. John
17:17" "Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth."
B. John
12:48: "The words that I have spoken, the same will judge him in the last
day."
C. We
will not be judged according to the opinions of men. Proverbs 14:12 –
"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are
the ways of death."
D. We
will not be judged according to the standards of society (evil, always
changing).
III. God’s
goodness does not indicate approval of sin (v4).
A. II
Peter 3:9: "The Lord is not slack concerning his promises………
longsuffering ……… not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance.
IV. God
will judge men according to their works (v6, 8). Re: "divine side"
along with "human side."
A. Romans
5:1: "Therefore being justified by faith…"
B. James
2:24-26: "By works a man is justified, and not by faith only."
C. II
Thessalonians 1:8: "In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know
not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ."
V. God
will judge without respect of persons (v11).
A. Hebrews
9:27: "And as it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the
judgment."
B. At
the judgment, all are equal.
VI. God
will judge through Christ (v16).
