THE THREE "R’S" OF
EDUCATION
INTRODUCTION:
1. The
three "R’s" of Education – Reading, Riting, and Rithmetic.
2. There
are three other "R’s" of education that are too often forgotten,
though more important than the first three.
DISCUSSION:
I. Religion.
A. Importance
of our influence on others:
1. Salt
of the earth (Matthew 5:13).
2. Light
of the world (Matthew 5:14-16).
B. You
can take your religious beliefs to school with you by:
1. Wear
modest apparel which is becoming to those who profess righteousness – I
Timothy 2:9-10.
2. Refuse
to partake of alcoholic beverages or drugs - Proverbs 23:29-35.
3. Refuse
to accept what you are taught concerning evolution – Psalm 19:1; Psalm
139:14.
4. Refuse
to accept what you are taught in matters of sexuality - Genesis 2:24-25.
5. Take
advantage of opportunities that come your way to tell others about Christ.
II. Respect.
A. For
other students. Respect for their property, for their feelings.
B. For
those who have authority over you (your teachers, principal, etc.). They are
over you because (1) your parents have placed you in their care, (2) they are
agents of the state (Romans 13:1-2), (3) they are adults (Leviticus 19:32).
III. Responsibility.
Realize you are responsible for what you do and say.
A. Have
the courage to do what is right, no matter what the cost.
B. Be
honest. See Romans 12:17.
1. With
God - Galatians 6:7-8.
2. With
yourself - I Peter 3:16. Train your conscience properly and use it wisely.
3. With
other students. A student who copies another’s test (or allows others to
copy his) is not being honest with other students.
4. With
your teachers. A teacher cannot help anyone who participates in lying or
cheating – Proverbs 20:17.
CONCLUSION:
1. Go
ahead, learn your reading, riting, and rithmetic.
2. But
don’t neglect the other three "R’s" of education – religion,
respect, and responsibility.
